The Three Doshas: Vata, Pitta & Kapha

According to Ayurveda, every person is a unique combination of three vital energies, known as doshas. These doshas – Vata, Pitta, & Kapha – govern all biological, psychological, and emotional functions in the body and mind. Understanding your dominant dosha helps maintain balance, harmony, and well-being.

Which AyurVeda Type Are You?

Every person carries three doshas within them—in a balanced and individual combination. This basic equilibrium is called Prakriti. It is present at birth and remains unchanged throughout life. It is the inner nature, the balance that everyone strives for and in which one feels healthy and happy.

Vata

Vata dosha is described as the principle of movement, characterized by the elements ether (space) and air. It enables alertness, movement, and communication, and governs the nervous system, breathing, and circulation.
When balanced, Vata brings creativity, vitality, and flexibility. When imbalanced, it may cause restlessness, dry skin, insomnia, or anxiety.

Pitta

The Pitta dosha is known as the metabolic principle, characterized by the element of fire. It regulates digestion, metabolism, and energy, and influences intellect and emotions.
When balanced, Pitta promotes clarity, confidence, and strong digestion. When imbalanced, it can manifest as irritability, inflammation, or digestive issues.

Kapha

The Kapha dosha is the structural principle, consisting of the elements earth and water. It provides stability, endurance, and immunity, maintaining fluid balance and physical strength.
When balanced, Kapha gives calmness, compassion, and steady energy. When imbalanced, it can lead to sluggishness, congestion, or weight gain.
